THIS MOMENT

This Moment is a weekly ritual of a single photo - no words - capturing a special moment from the week. These photos represent a moment that is dear to my heart, whether it be of someone or something I love.

Happy Tuesday.
This being my first 'This Moment' post, I wanted to explain it a little more. As I was reading some of my favorite blogs - I was inspired by Ashley from Little Miss Momma - to start this challenge in order to help me remember all the good moments in my life.
I hope this weekly ritual helps inspire you, encourages me to learn more about my DSLR, and brings hope into my life.

UPPERCASE BOX

Simply Nicollette reviews - books, movies, television shows, etc. with slight spoilers. I try my best to review without giving away too much of the story.

I'm a huge reader, if you haven't noticed here on Simply Nicollette.
There is something special to me about being able to enter different worlds, and come out of them finding your own self in reality.

I have a long 'To Be Read' list of books, but I have a problem of figuring out which book I should read next. So, I've been on the hunt for a book subscription box for a long time. I think subscription boxes are so fun. My boyfriend is subscribed to Loot Crate and the Marvel Collector Corps subscription boxes - he always receives such fun, exclusive items. My friend had pointed out Uppercase when she stumbled upon it. It looked great, and it was actually affordable! Every book subscription box I found before asked for around $35-$40 each month - so I was happy to see this one was only $23 a month! I showed my boyfriend and I was signed up before I even realized I was.

I've been receiving Uppercase Boxes for the past 3 months.
I wanted to wait to write a review about my boxes until I knew that I really loved the subscription, because I know we all don't have the money to spend freely every month.
But -
I am in love with this subscription box, and I want to tell you all about it.

Uppercase Box is for all the Young Adult lovers out there.
It's just that - a YA book subscription box. The founder, Lisa Parkin, is a book expert who personally reads and selects each book every month. The book and items you receive are always popular from the current of previous month.

Uppercase Subscription Box Includes
1 New YA Book
Book Accessories - which include bookmarks, totes, jewelry, etc.
Personal Note - one of my favorite parts, Lisa makes the box feel more personalized by writing you a short note explaining why the book was chosen.
Exclusive Author Content - including signed items.

Uppercase Box Subscriber Options
Book Exclusive - $17
Expert Pick - $23
Personalized Recommendation - $29

At the beginning, I was subscribed to Expert Pick - which is a great choice. Now, I am subscribed to Book Exclusive. You'll see that I've been lucky to receive some book accessories since downgrading, but not as much fun extras since my first box. I love Expert Pick, but since money is low for the time being - subscribing to Book Exclusive is perfect for me. It's only $17 a month, and every book I have received has been hardcover - which it should be known that most hardcover new releases can be up to $20 each. The prices are worth the product you receive - no matter what subscriber option you choose.

I have loved each book - and all the accessories - that I have received. All of it feeds my book nerd brain and it's fun that Uppercase never spoils anything from each box. It's always a pleasant surprise.

Every book has been so different.
I would have never picked up any of these books. I absolutely love how Uppercase has helped broaden my reading. All 3 books have been a fun experience, and have helped challenge me to opening up to experience new types of worlds. I know that I didn't talk about each book - they are linked to where you can purchase them - but, look forward to a separate post where I will write a review on all 3 of these books.
Trust me when I tell you, they are worth a separate post.

I write all my reviews because I genuinely love/dislike (mostly love) the things I share on Simply Nicollette. I want to help get the word out so others, like myself, can enjoy them as much as I do.
If you would like to subscribe, or read more about Uppercase Box, you can find them here.

ANT-MAN

Simply Nicollette reviews - books, movies, television shows, etc. with slight spoilers. I try my best to review without giving away too much of the story.

Ant-Man.
I need to share some of my thoughts on this movie, because I feel like not many people are going to give this movie a chance - whether it's Marvel or not - and I want to change that.

I have to admit that I wasn't excited to see this movie at all.
I'm a huge Paul Rudd fan.
I'm a huge Marvel fan.
But -
There was something about this movie that didn't particularly excite me in any way. Whenever news came out about new Ant-Man footage, I didn't even bother reading/watching it. I told myself that I would watch the movie, just because it was Marvel and part of the cinematic universe so I couldn't just skip out on it if I wanted to stay in the loop.
I was so wrong.
I'm sorry I judged you before allowing myself to actually give you a chance Ant-Man.

Ant-Man was a lot of fun.
It was surprisingly hilarious.
There were times where the jokes felt a little forced or misplaced, but in my opinion that has happened in past Marvel films - like in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Paul Rudd - including the entire cast, especially Michael Pena, were great choices for these roles in order to pull off the comedic aspect throughout the movie. They are naturally funny and charming, so the humor worked for me in Ant-Man. I enjoyed it all.

This cast is fantastic - everyone from the main cast to the supporting cast had great chemistry together, and it helped the movie be great.
I could talk about the whole cast all day, because they were all that great, but I'm just going to talk about Paul Rudd - who led the movie. He was a great, great choice. I don't know anything about Ant-Man - besides what I've now seen in the cinematic universe - I've never read a comic of his or a comic with him in it for a huge portion, so I can't judge if he was a good choice based on who Ant-Man is in the comics. For the cinematic universe though, Paul Rudd was fantastic. He was great in every scene - from being serious, hilarious, and running alongside those ants - it was great to see him shine throughout the movie.

The graphics. The action sequences.
All of it was awesome in Ant-Man.
I don't want to spoil too much of the movie for you - but there is a scene in the movie where Ant-Man comes in contact with an Avenger, and it was one of my favorite parts of the movie.
The graphics throughout made the movie a lot of fun, considering Ant-Man can shrink in a blink of an eye. The movie definitely had some of the best graphics of the Marvel films - in my opinion.

The ants.
I'm not an insect type of person, especially ants. I was a little worried that I would be feeling the need to scratch my arms during the movie, thinking there were a million ants crawling on me, but I didn't do that at all. The way they incorporated ants into the movie worked, they played a great role in making the movie what it is.

Ant-Man is in my top 3 favorite Marvel films.
If you're a fan of Marvel films then you know how hard it is to beat out some of the past films, but I just had a lot of fun watching this movie. It was extremely entertaining.
For the people who aren't as into superhero movies as others - I think that you would still enjoy watching Ant-Man. It was a heist type of movie and incredibly thrilling throughout.

RATING:

5 out of 5 stars

Have you seen Ant-Man - If so, what were your thoughts?
Leave me a comment and let me know what you thought of the movie.

TO KISS IS TO PROMISE

I always find it awkward when old friends tell me that I ended up 'okay' in my life. I guess somewhere along the line they believed I would either fail or do something spectacular in my lifetime, but I've somehow ended up just doing okay.

I'm not sure where I see myself - whether it's doing well, okay, or horrible.
I know that I'm happy. I know that I feel incredibly lucky.
There's a lot to consider when I think about it.. The biggest thing I consider as I ask myself - How have I ended up in my life?.. Is am I a good mother?
My children are growing up in a loving home, and lucky for them they continue to be grossed out by their parents kissing. I know how blessed I am with all the things I have in my life.
But - Am I a good mother? Being called a good mother makes me feel uncomfortable because there are many times where I don't believe it, no matter how great things are.

I can be selfish.
I'm lazy.
I freak out over little things.
I obsess over cleaning.
I am a crazy person when I'm hungry.
I have so many flaws that affect my children.

I am constantly worrying over every little thing I do after I actually do them.
I wonder if my children will remember me laying in bed an extra 10 minutes before getting up and making them breakfast.
I wonder how my laziness will affect my children as they grow up.
I am constantly stressing over the fact that my flaws may make my children feel the need to harm themselves or others in the future.
I wonder if by buying them that toy to make up for not going somewhere will somehow make them believe they can just buy themselves out of every situation.
..& then the reading. I continue to read every article that is telling me that I am doing everything wrong - Why did I let my 3 year old watch Jurassic Park, did I just ruin his future?!

I have no idea what I'm doing.
It drives me crazy.
Is this how all parents feel?

I make a lot of mistakes.
I'm positive I'll continue to make mistakes. I don't think that I will ever stop obsessing over these mistakes either. All my sleepless nights where I obsess and obsess, I know that I learn from each of these mistakes and that is what helps me continue to be a better mom the next day.

I guess this is how motherhood is going to be for me.
I'm okay with that.
So, as I ask myself - How have I ended up in my life? I think I'll just consider myself happy - whether I'm a good mom or a bad mom that day. I'm happy, I'm not sure if that justifies me doing just okay in my life or not - but I'm okay with that, too.

So -
Next time you think about your life and wonder whether you are doing well or horrible.. I hope that if you are like me, and take all your flaws into consideration, that you don't let your thoughts define you. Here's my secret - I take a deep breath and I kiss the ones that I love, the ones who make me who I am. Every time I kiss my children - especially those goodnight kisses - those are my promises to them. That's all I have. My promise to always be a good mother to them, I will never let them down as their mother. I will always love them, and that is what helps me remember that it doesn't matter if I'm doing just 'okay' in my life - We're happy and that is what matters.
A kiss is as good as a promise.
